Onsen

A variety of baths – from large public to private reserved – can be enjoyed,
such as the “Chobo-no-yu Shiokaze” spa, which affords an exhilarating vista, or the “Isobe-no-yu Matsukaze” spa,
whose close proximity allows one to take in the comforting sounds of the sea.

Shirahama Onsen is considered one of “Japan’s three most ancient spas,” and has long attracted emperors away from the capital. The salinity of the hotel’s hot spring at its source is similar to seawater, so it affords a long-lasting post-bathing warmth and reputedly has a good moisturizing effect.

Best bathing practice at Shirahama Spa

  • Resting for at least 30 minutes prior to taking a bath is recommended.
  • Start by pouring hot water over yourself, then slowly immerse in the hot bath until your shoulders are covered.
  • Move your arms, legs and hips slowly through the water once thoroughly warmed. (Do not over-exert yourself or remain too long in the bath if short of breath.)
  • Relax for at least 60 minutes after taking a bath.

After bathing, the residual constituent elements from the Shirahama spa water slowly infuse into the skin to exert their efficacy. We recommend that any post-bath showering be kept to a minimum to maximize the efficacy of the spa water.
