Hotel History

Many celebrities and intellectuals, even members of the imperial family,
have visited the hotel since it opened in 1929, creating our history through ever-changing eras.
With the history and tradition we have inherited,
we will continue to move forward and develop our local community.

Among the many facilities around the Shirahama hot springs – one of the three most ancient springs in Japan, and long renowned for its rich efficacy – we have utilized the achievements and experience accumulated since our foundation to provide distinguished hospitality and seafood-based cuisine.
1920’s

The hotel was established on November 3, 1929. Shirahama spa has long been popular not only as a summer retreat, but also as a warm scenic resort devoid of snow, attracting many to enjoy the hot springs and fishing.

1940’s to 1950’s

The building was refurbished into a three-story edifice. A newly added balcony created a more resort-like atmosphere. In those days, Shirahama had a sand ski slope and a sightseeing ropeway, making it a popular honeymoon destination.

1960’s

The current building was newly built in December 1968. Bowling was all the rage at the time, and the “Shirahama Beach Bowl” was also installed at the Shiraraso Grand Hotel.

1990’s to Today

From 1993 up to the present day, the large communal baths and VIP rooms have been expanded and refurbished.
